You ain't seen nothing yet! Fairhurst pledges there's more to come after Boston United get off the mark against Tamworth

Lamin Colley and Lewis Hilliard also netted as Boston got their first points of the National League season, beating Tamworth 3-0.

The Pilgrims looked more polished than the side which had lost their opening three games of the campaign, and Fairhurst now hopes the squad have a foundation on which to build.

“It’s nice to win, we’ve been struggling for the first three games,” the forward said.

“But we’ve got a win now and we go again looking to build on that.

“I think we’ll improve on that.

“We weren’t at our best, we’ve got good players and more to come.”

Fairhurst’s match ended shortly after his fifth-minute strike, the forward injuring his hamstring and being replaced by Colley.

Looking back, he added: “It’s good to get off the mark but I got inured with it, so that’s a bit of a downer.

“I’ll let Katie (Cooper, sports therapist) look at it on Thursday and take it from there.”

Manager Dennis Greene was pleased to pick up those points which elevated United up to 17th in the table, pointing at an improved performance across the pitch, from Fairhurst in attack to the grafting Christian Dibble in goal.

“Dibbs was commanding and Waide got us up and running with a great finish,” he said.

“They all took responsibility in their performance and won a game of football.

“After the Darlington game I said it was embarrassing, but looking back now, apart from those eight minutes where we conceded three, we didn’t do terrible.

“We won’t concede freak goals like that every week and we made chances.

“We’re a good side and we didn’t have too much luck in the first three games, but we’re up and running now.”
