Can club's finances go from amber to black?
BOSTON United are back in the Blue Square North, but can they go further next season and be back in the black?
This is the hope of chairman David Newton who has set his sights on that 'magic break-even figure' for the Pilgrims next campaign.
He said he was 'absolutely thrilled' with the result against Bradford Park Avenue last Saturday, and credited joint managers Rob Scott and Paul Hurst and the players with clinching promotion.
But among his chief hopes for the next season is to balance the club's books.
"The budget will be very similar to last year, which may come as a disappointment to some of the fans, but it should reassure them we are not going to go silly with the football club and get it into the kind of trouble its had in the past," he said.
He described the budget as 'competitive' and said the joint managers were 'happy' with the numbers.
He expects the club to lose about 100,000 this year (a figure which rises to about 250,000 when 'abnormal costs' are taken into account), but is quick to put this into context that just three years ago the club was losing 600,000.
"It's a great achievement by everyone at the club," he said.
Promotion he feels will help the club's coffers further.
"We get a little bit more from the Blue Square North. It's not a massive amount, but it helps. People like to follow a successful club, so hopefully it will increase the gates, sell more shirts, more food, more drink, and sponsorship tends to improve as well.
"It's very positive for the club on the financial front," he said.
He thanked the fans for their support, in what has been a challenging time for not just the club but for all, with the country suffering its worst recession in decades.
"I just can't praise the fans enough," he said. "They have followed us not just at York Street, but away - and at many away games our fans have outnumbered the home fans. And this is through difficult economic times - we really, really appreciate it and I'm just so pleased we could do it for them last Saturday."
