A talented karting champion is looking for sponsors to help get him a step closer to his ultimate dream of one day racing Formula 1 cars.
Nico Palmer, from Great Cornard, was crowned Anglian Go Karting Champion last weekend after completing his maiden season.
Although he was racing some drivers who were older than him, at one stage the 14-year-old was 51 points clear at the top of the leader board.
His father, Mark Palmer, hopes that sponsorship will help Nico progress through funding.
He said:” I’m a single dad and it isn’t easy to do the funding for his racing on my own.
“It is just a shame to think that Nico could miss out on opportunities due to that.”
Mr Palmer has set up a Facebook page, called Sponser Nico Palmer, to try to show potential sponsors the winning exploits of his son, and says there are many attributes people may like about his driving.
He said: “Nico is very focused when he drives and is so consistent with his races, clocking 19-second track times indoors, and has an ability to see the race line while holding people behind him and keeping a good position for himself on the track.”
Nico (pictured) has already enrolled in Youngstarz Training Club at the Red Lodge outdoor karting track to further his racing skills.
He is doing well, already finishing on the podium various times.
The next step is to compete in the qualifying for the British Schools Karting Championship, but with rules stating that drivers must be taller than 1.57m (5ft 2in) with shoes on it may be the only thing to scupper his plans. Nico is 1.42m (4ft 8in).
Nico’s race heroes are Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
Mr Palmer added: “It is amazing for a rookie to become champion, not many have done what Nico has, I think sponsors should come and watch him, he is such a talented racer, and maybe give some advice and funding to help Nico get to where he wants to be.”
