Canoville: I'd swap cup win for promotion
Wednesday, 3pm - LEE Canoville lifted his first piece of silverware at Boston United… but instantly said he'd swap it for promotion.
The captain, back at York Street for a second spell, has never won a trophy with the Pilgrims before.
Last night he lifted the Lincs Senior Shield following the 1-0 win over Grantham Town at the Meeres Stadium, thanks to a Shaun Pearson header.
But after lifting the large wooden shield, Canoville's attentions instantly switched to the UniBond Premier.
"Anyone in the squad would take promotion over this," Canoville told The Standard.
"But we want to win every game here. Hopefully this will be the first of many trophies.
"It's pleasing to win, even though it wasn't the best of games to watch, I'm sure.
"We always want to play well but sometimes it's a good sign when you're not playing too well and still picking up wins."
Canoville says he has never been on a run of eight-straight wins in his days as a footballer.
But he hopes the success can stretch to nine as Nantwich arrive at York Street on Saturday.
He added: "We turned them over 4-0 at their place so they're coming to us thinking they owe us one.
"We want to win the league so we've got to take on everyone and fight for the right.
"I've never been on a run like this before. We'll just look at the next game and let the run speak for itself."
On a sour note, midfielder Adam Millson has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg, a repeat injury that has seen him sidelined for most of the season.
