Cheers! Jonathan's brilliant batting sets up Boston victories

JONATHAN Cheer struck magnificent centuries on Saturday and Sunday as Boston Cricket Club surged to two fabulous victories.

The 18-year-old anchored the First XI's run chase at Grimsby Town on Saturday as Boston claimed their second win in four Lincolnshire ECB Premier League outings.

Dan Milgate and Colin Cheer shared eight of the Grimsby wickets to fall at Augusta Street, with Alan Mountford executing a run-out, as the home side posted 227-9.

Cheer took centre stage in reply, striking a brilliant 133 from 124 balls, including 17 boundaries, and received good support from Lee Brooks (44), as Boston powered to a crucial victory.

Cheer was among the runs once again on Sunday - striking 133 not out - as the Sunday First XI overtook Hartsholme's 205-9 with relative ease.

Paul Timby weighed in with 54 not out, after Scott Elleray and Callum

Moses had earlier taken three wickets apiece.

The Second XI were winners over their Bourne counterparts on Saturday at the Mayflower, thanks in no small part to Mickey Troops' swash-buckling knock of 94. Troops, along with the evergreen Steve Elleray, rescued Boston from 62-8 to guide the hosts to 190.

Ian Morris then took four wickets - aided by two apiece from Paul Deans and Matthew Poole - as Bourne were restricted to 183-8 to hand Boston a narrow and exciting seven-run win.

The Third XI lost by five wickets to Billingborough in a low-scoring encounter. Dismissed for only 70, with Dave Gilding the only man to make double figures, Boston took five wickets in reply, but were well-beaten.

Teenage duo Sean Burns and Charlie Ward took two wickets each.

Ian Morris (four) and Paul Deans (three) were among the wickets as the Sunday Second XI secured a win over Old Lincolnians.

The home side posted 143-8, before Boston replied to win by three wickets.

The top six all made double figures, with Sam Deptford leading the way with 21, as Boston romped home.

Boston are at home on Saturday to high-flying Market Deeping (12.30pm start).
