Craven is top counter across country

BOSTON-area runners were included in the South Lincolnshire teams selected for the Lincolnshire Schools Cross-country Championships in Spalding on Saturday.

In blustery conditions, along the exposed Coronation Channel course, two Boston Grammar School athletes ran in the senior boys’ (under 19) championship.

Michael Craven was first counter for South Lincs, entering the finish funnel in fifth place.

Aidan McClure crossed the line third team counter in 10th position.

At senior girls’ level, Boston High School’s Alice Flint was also third counter for South Lincs, finishing 10th.

In the intermediate under 17 age group, Boston Grammar’s Daniel Mockridge was 32nd and Oliver Street 33rd in the boys’ county schools championship event.

By far the best performance on the day was by Haven High Technology College representative Cameron Marshall in the under 15 boys’ race.

Cameron ran extremely well along the exposed river banks and finished strongly behind the South Lincs winner to claim a terrific second place.

Liam Brotherton (Boston Grammar), who is a year young in the under 15 age group, finished in 15th position.

With South Lincs placing their first seven runners in the top 20 positions at this level, the area has a strong chance of featuring in the under 15 boys’ team championship when they are published.

Three Boston Grammar lads ran in the under 13 boys’ event for year seven competitors.

Blake Garwell was 16th, Aaron Bradshaw 33rd and Sam Anthony 40th.
