Five wins out of five for Freiston Firsts

Freiston First XI made it five wins from five league matches with a comfortable victory over Skegness in Division One of the South Lincolnshire and Border League.

Their 134-run victory owed much to a powerful batting display.

After being put into bat, Freiston started well, with opening pair Waseem Ilyas and Richard Paul putting on 87 for the first wicket.

Paul was watchful for his 24 before being caught in the slips.

Ilyas brought up his 50, and when he was joined by Abdul Moeed, the scoring rate accelerated dramatically.

The pair scored at more than eight runs an over in their 92-run partnership.

Moeed was quick to pounce on anything short and the majority of his seven maximums were pulled over the leg side.

Ilyas, who made 84, and Moeed, who contributed 67, were dismissed in quick succesion, but Connor Goodfellow (28) and Zeeshan Saeed (26) kept the scoreboard moving along.

Freiston closed on 270-8 off their 45 overs, with Elsom claiming four wickets for Skegness.

With the ball, Freiston claimed their first wicket in the third over, Ollie Booth clean bowling Foreman for 6.

Elsom (9) and Taylor (22) then added 33 for the second wicket, but both were caught on the leg side off the bowling of Tommy Atkinson.

Ashok Kumar clean bowled Redgard and there were two wickets for Zeeshan Hasan.

Hugill top scored for Skegness with an aggressive 39 before being caught in the deep by Paul to give Moeed the first of four victims.

Moeed also had Brant caught by Ilyas for a patient 14 and proceeded to clean up the tail to end with impressive figures of 4-13.

Skegness were dismissed for 136, 134 runs short of the Freiston total.

○ Freiston host the only other unbeaten side in Division One, Spalding Seconds, on Saturday in a table-topping clash.

○ In the RP Transport Friendly League, Freiston L&L Second XI beat Legbourne by 81 runs.

Freiston seconds continued their good form, scoring 156 all out, before dismissing their opponents for just 75.

Stewart Kirtley top-scored for Freiston with 56, while Connor Goodfellow made a fine 41.

Danny Lumley also struck a useful 16.

But, with Freiston bowling well, Legbourne were never in the chase, and were dismissed 81 runs short of the target.

Opening bowlers Jonny Whitehead (1-7) and Danny Lumley (3-4) both claimed wickets in their first overs, while veteran Paul Chester claimed two wickets.

Sandy top scored for Legbourne with a well-made 30.
