Howzat ladies?
BOSTON High was the first school to host Lincolnshire Cricket’s new Girls into Cricket projects.
The event, funded through Sportivate, has gone from strength-to-strength since beginning in November.
The sessions are coached by Boston Cricket Club’s Peter Moore and John McGarel, taking players through drills and games to develop their skills – even introducing some to the game.
The Girls into Cricket project was set up by Lincolnshire Cricket to increase the number of 14 and 15-year-old girls playing the game by engaging them in an after school club delivered by local club and community coaches.
The sessions at Boston High School engaged with 14 girls who will now compete in the Lady Taverners County final.
Lady Taverners is an indoor competition run nationally by the English Cricket Board to increase participation of teenage girls.
Matches are played indoors with a soft ball to help break down the potential barrier to participation of playing with hard balls and wearing equipment, which has previously been found to be an issue for new female players.
