Lovelace returns to the Boston fold

Boston CC's return to the top flight was put on hold for a week as the weather was the only winner in the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League this weekend.

With the league being a complete wash-out, nobody was able to get a head-start in 2016.

Every side sits on five points and each will be ready to start their season this forthcoming weekend – where Boston host defending champions Bracebridge Heath.

“It’s not an ideal start, having to play the champions first game back,” said Boston skipper Tom Baxter.

“They will be a very good side that will be looking to retain their title in 2016.”

However, Baxter can think of many positives to take from the fixture.

“They are not going to be at 100 per cent as the weather will have slowed every side’s preparations.

“Training sessions will have been missed and matches abandoned without a ball being bowled.”

Boston’s preparations have certainly been hampered with two outdoor nets sessions cancelled, a friendly cancelled and the first game of the season abandoned before 10am.

“We’ve managed to get three outdoor nets in and two of those have been quite wet under foot,” the captain continued.

“It’s not been an ideal start but every club is in the same boat and we can only do what we can.”

Boston have been boosted in the week with another new signing.

Ricky Lovelace has agreed to return to the club and will add valuable experience to the side.

“Lovers won’t be available every week so it will be a case of as and when he’s available and seeing whether the situation suits him and the club,” Baxter said.

Boston will not be able to call on the availability of Lovelace this Saturday, as he will be in action for Stamford Town FC, who are fighting relegation, in their final league game of the season.

Boston Seconds will have to wait until next weekend to start their campaign as their contest with Grantham Seconds fell foul of the elements on Saturday.

The team will make the trip to picturesque Belton Park on Saturday and will be hopeful of getting their campaign started with a victory.

The weekend’s fixtures: Boston 1sts v Bracebridge Heath (noon start), Belton Park v Boston 2nds (1pm start), Boston Sunday 2nds v Scothern (1.30pm start).
