Long Sutton 87, Boston 3rds 89-9 - Boston won by one wicket.

Boston Thirds hosted Long Sutton on Mayflower 2, where they recorded a one-wicket victory.

Batting first, Long Sutton posted 87 all out with double figure contributions coming from Wright (11), Smith (10), Stewart (10), Baker (11) and 16 from youngster Steven Milne.

Boston again relied on the division’s most dangerous strike force with Steve Appleyard and Ian Morris getting four wickets each.

The pair have 46 wickets between them this season.

Ryan Ayres chipped in with the remaining two.

After tea Boston had 52 overs to get 88 runs to gain another 20 points.

Openers Shaun Moore and Will Tetther were patient and both reached double figures, Moore hitting 10 and Tetther a very mature 23 until he was run out.

Sean Barnett, Peter Ward and Thomas Simpson were all removed cheaply before Jack Tetther and Morris had a brief partnership before Josh Baker removed the pair, Tetther making 17.

Baker also removed Liam Bent for a duck to get a very impressive five-wicket haul.

Ayres was run out, leaving Long Sutton needing one wicket for a great victory and Boston needing three runs.

Swing bowler Appleyard faced the quick left armer and decided to swing hard, finding the outside edge of the bat and saw the ball race away to the boundary to secure a one wicket victory and a valuable 20 points.
