Seconds sit on top of the SLBL standings

Boston 2nds 224-5, Bourne 2nds 174 - Boson won by 50 runs.

With three matches played, Boston CC Seconds sit on top of the SLBL Premier.

This weekend they travelled to Bourne for their second away game in a row.

Boston arrived to a very green pitch and overcast conditions and were quickly invited to have a bat.

Boston openers Chris Morley and Georges Cornah took to the crease and the Boston innings got off to a very slow and cautious start with the Boune seam attack not presenting either Boston batsman a chance to score easy runs.

The pressure to score seemed to pay off for Bourne as Morley (12) fell after he was forced into a false shot.

This brought the returning Paul Roberts to the crease after having an entire year out of the game due to injury.

Roberts settled in at the crease with relative ease and got off the mark with a text book cover drive, dispelling any thoughts of ring rust.

The two Boston men set about putting a competetive score on the board.

With both Roberts and Cornah passing the half century milestone they started to put theirfoot on the gas and up the run rate.

Roberts was dissmissed for 71, but with the run rate still at below four runs per over, captain Luke Gilding decided to send in big hitter Micky Troops to try and speed things up.

This decision quickly paid off as Troops sent ball after ball to the fence including one six that cleared the rope and the entire ground.

Cornah was the perfect man to complement the batting with Troops.

Wickets did tumble at the end of the Boston innings but only due to the ever increasing run rate.

When Gilding was dissmised off the final ball of Boston’s time with the willow, they hadamassed a score of 22­5.

After tea had been taken Boston had eyes on one thing, bowling Bourne all out and taking home a second successive 20-point victory.

The Boston opening bowlers Troops and Andrew Hewitt were charged with that task and set to it as soon as they took the field.

A crazy opening five overs saw Bourne in a deep hole at 9­4 with Troops taking three scalps in one over.

It was a crazy start with Troops tearing through their top order.

The wonderful over was capped off with a breathtaking catch in the gully by Damo Lawson.

Boston did not have it all their own way with the ball though, a fantastic counter attacking innings from Bourne’s David Greenfield showed that Bourne were not out of the running.

Greenfield took on all of the Boston bowling attack single handedly smashing 79 runs which involved seven fours and five sixes.

As the men started to find their way to the boundary, Lawson found a flaw in the batsman’s technique and dismissed him, caught behind by returning Boston wicketkeeper Matthew Hood.

The introduction of Roberts in to the attack singled the end for Bourne as he cleaned up the tailenders to finish with three wickets for himself.

Boston bowled out Bourne for 174 to claim another maximum-point victory.

Roberts picked up the man of the match trophy for his 71 crucial runs and three wickets.
