Kickboxer Cally Sutton is celebrating after receiving an international call-up.
The 17-year-old has earned her place in the British Chinese Kung Fu/Kickboxing Association’s England squad after impressing at trials, less than two years after taking up the sport for the first time.
This means Cally can now look forward to testing herself against the world’s best fighter’s at the Irish Open - acknowledged as one of the toughest kickboxing tournaments on the planet - in March.
She is also hoping to represent the BCKA England squad at future World and European Championships.
“Cally is a massive success story and testament to what martial arts can do for people,” said Jason Smalley, who coaches at the Boston BCKA club alongside Dave Trotter.
“It’s amazing for someone who has been training for less than two years.”
After impressing at a recent tournament in Manchester, where she stepped up to fight in the senior women’s category, Cally was invited to compete at BCKA trials in Corby.
And she did more than enough to book her place on the England squad, where she will now fight amongst the world’s elite.
