Ian Dunn was left questioning a penalty decision which he believes cost his Boston Town side the chance of a fightback against St Ives last night.
With Town trailing 2-0, Josh Ford broke through on goal only to be hauled back.
The Saints defender saw red, but as the Poachers were preparing to place the ball on the penalty spot, they were told by the referee that he had awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area.
“It was in the box, I couldn’t believe it,” Dunn told The Standard.
Town were again thwarted after the interval when the Saints stopper pulled off a fine double save to deny Dunn and Ollie Pinner.
However, after suffering just their second defeat in 11 matches, Dunn remains upbeat.
He said: “There’s no shame in losing to the side in second.
“We’re improving but we’re not quite at their level yet.
“I can’t fault the side, the lads gave absolutely everything.”
