PILGRIMS captain Gareth Jelleyman says people would be foolish to rule the Pilgrims out of the promotion race.
After Saturday’s victory over Gainsborough Trinity – who have their own sights set on making it to the Conference Premier – Jelleyman believes the Pilgrims have proven they have what it takes to challenge at the top.
“I think we’ve got a side good enough to be up there,” he said.
“There’s plenty of quality in the squad.
“We just need to be more consistent.”
Jelleyman, pictured, was part of the United side which reached last season’s Blue Square Bet North play-off semi-finals, only to go out on penalties against Guiseley.
And after a shake-up in the summer, Jelleyman believes the club has taken a few months to gel properly.
He added: “I think we’re still a club in transition.
“People can see how well Stalybridge are doing now.
“They played some good stuff last season but didn’t really get the results.
“But hopefully we’re turning that around and can make sure we’re up there.”
