Phase two of Boston United’s summer recruitment project will begin on Saturday.
The Pilgrims squad will be lacing up their boots and playing their first pre-season match of the new campaign.
Championship outfit Norwich City will be the first warm-up opponents as the two sides meet one another on Saturday (KO 3pm).
Pilgrims boss Dennis Greene says he expects friendly opposition Norwich, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland to all field youthful-looking XIs.
And Greene hopes to use those opportunities to scout promising talents he may be able to bring to the Jakemans Stadium on loan.
He did similar last year by bringing in Sunderland trio Liam Marrs, Liam Agnew and David Ferguson to aid the Pilgrims’ Conference North push.
“They’re all going to be great matches and really big tests for us,” Greene told The Standard.
“We’re trying to build good relationships with these clubs as it could be a chance for us to bring in some promising young players.
“It also helps those clubs give first-team experience to young lads.
“I’ll be on the lookout for a bright young player or two.”
United’s second warm-up fixture will be away at Spalding United, recently promoted from the UCL Premier.
The match kicks off at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Tuesday (KO 7.45pm).
