One bookmaker is offering odds of 50-1 that Boston United will lift the Conference North title next season, prompting defiance from members of the squad who are keen to prove they can be contenders.

Bookmaker Betway is offering 50-1 for Dennis Greene’s side to be champions – the second-longest odds of anyone in the division, with only Worcester City at 100-1 being seen as having less of a chance of finishing first.

According to website www.oddschecker.com Ladbrokes is offering 33-1 and Bet Victor 25-1, both prices that are way behind the early contenders.

The news has prompted a bit of banter among Greene’s squad on Twitter, with new goalkeeper Ashley Timms tweeting: “So we are 51-1 to win the conf north are they sure jump on it”

He also added: “@betway are on drugs how can they have us at 51-1. Think that’s the bet of the season !!!!”

He also used the hashtag #50-1letsproveeveryonewrong

New striker Ricky Miller replied: “it will be a tall order to win thiat league but playoffs is realistic !”

See tomorrow’s Boston Standard for Dennis Greene’s views on the challenge faced by a difficult looking Conference National line up.

The league favourites are recently relegated AFC Telford and Stockport County.
