Pilgrims chairman David Newton believes he has witnessed the best Boston United squad the club has put together since he took over the reins.
Despite tough competition from the UniBond Premier play-off winners of 2010 and the side which finished third in the Conference North the following campaign, Newton - who has completed his seventh league season in charge at York Street - has enjoyed watching this year’s crop most of all.
“It’s been a great season,” he told The Standard.
“Dennis (Greene, manager) has done a great job and for me this squad is second to none in my time here.
“The commitment has been great and the camaraderie has carried us a long way.”
Newton is also hopeful to keep the core of this team together. He added: “I think the squad has got a lot stronger than it was at the beginning of the season.
“We’ll try to keep as many of the players as we can for next season.
“We have something to build on, and a team which really plays for one another.”
