Jay Dowie believes that strong bonds inside the Boston United’s dressing room means that the Pilgrims squad are even more desperate to fight hard for one another.

When the midfielder returned to the Jakemans Stadium this season he once again linked up with a number of former Pilgrims teammates, as well as Zak Mills and Grant Roberts - his close friends from their days playing together at Histon.

And he believes those ready-made bonds mean a closer unity in the squad.

“Grant wasn’t just a teammate, he was a friend as well,” Dowie said.

“It’s similar to Zak as well. So it’s nice to come in and see them again.

“Obviously, I know a few other guys, so it’s not like going to a new club.

“It feels nice to be back.”

Fellow teammates have also previously spoken of the cameraderie within Dennis Greene’s squad.

And that is something Dowie agrees with.

He added: “If you’re not just associates but friends then you’re going to put that extra in for each other.

“That’s the spirit we’ve got and I feel it gives us an edge.

“Some teams won’t have that.”
