Boston United’s promising early season form continued with a deserved 3-1 victory against Gloucester City on Saturday.
The Pilgrims trailed to a fifth minute penalty but gradually got themselves back into the game and once they were level, there was only going to be one winner.
Captain Ian Ross, making his 100th appearance for the Pilgrims, scored a screamer on 34 minutes and then provided accurate corner deliveries after the break for defensive duo Carl Piergianni and Scott Garner to hand
United all three points.
United were in trouble during the opening stages at the Abbey Business Stadium.
Goalkeeper Ashley Timms fouled Tom Webb in the box and Tyler Weir stepped up to send the Boston stopper the wrong way from the spot.
Gloucester were on top for the opening 30 minutes or so, although they did not seriously threaten adding to their tally.
United levelled when Ross picked up the ball 25 yards from goal before dispatching a brilliant long-range drive which nestled into the net off the inside of Mike Green’s right-hand post.
Ricky Miller had already been denied twice by Green as United stepped on the gas and the second half was all one-way traffic — particularly after they took the lead on 51 minutes.
Marc Newsham’s shot deflected just wide and from Ross’ corner, Piergianni bulleted home a header — his second goal in three United matches.
United sealed the match six minutes later when Peter Bore saw an effort deflected wide and once Ross delivered another flag-kick, Garner did the rest from close-range.
City finished with match with 10 men for the final few minutes with Darren Edwards hobbling off after all three substitutes had been used, while United youngster Ngoni Dongo was handed his debut as an 87th minute
