Dennis Greene says he has no worries about promoting youngsters to the Boston United first team.
Eighteen-year-old midfielder Ngoni Dongo was handed his Pilgrims debut on Saturday, replacing Conor Marshall in the dying minutes.
“He’s a smashing lad and he’s got an opportunity,” Greene said.
“We tried getting him on the pitch to get a taste for it.
“I hope he enjoyed it, he can go home and tell his mum he’s a Conference North player.”
And with 16-year-old Ollie Price (another product of the club’s youth team) an unused substitute and 19-year-old ex-Norwich City midfielder Michael Clunan playing the first half on Saturday, Greene was quick to point out that the youngsters were there on merit.
He added: “We wouldn’t bring them if we don’t think they’re good enough.
“We wouldn’t put them on the bench if we didn’t think they could do the job.”
