MARC Newsham was named Boston United’s Player of the Season – before vowing to come back and lift the trophy again next year.
For the past two seasons, the striker sat in the stands and watched former teammate Shaun Pearson make history as he consecutively claimed the top accolade.
Now Newsham – who scored his 21st goal of the campaign on Saturday – wants to match his pal.
“I’d like to stay and it would be my aim to win this again, but I’d like to top that with a better season for the team,” Newsham said.
“It feels great (to win the award). It’s come as bit of a shock, but it’s been a good season for me.
“Maybe I should have scored a few more goals, but I’m happy to contribute.”
Newsham reaffirmed himself as the Pilgrims’ top marksman this campaign after netting just six times last season.
Now he wants to see United follow suit and return to being a Blue Square Bet North force.
“With a few new additions we can have a real chance,” he added.
“Next season we can have a real go. We’ve been inconsistent and not been able to string more than two wins together. The thing you need to do well is be consistent, the top teams have been there all season.”
