Now for safety...

PILGRIMS manager Steve Welsh reckons his Boston United team have turned the corner following last night's 5-0 thumping of Prescot Cables.

Home debutant Ricky Miller netted a 22-minute hat-trick after Jon Rowan had twice found the back of the net, taking his season's tally to 16.

This emphatically ended United's run of eight-and-a-half hours without a goal, and takes them to within three points of UniBond Premier safety.

They now have a game in hand and a far better goal difference than Worksop, who sit just inside the safety zone.

"It's been a good night, they've been few and far between of late," said Welsh.

"It's nice to enjoy it and see everyone with a smile on their faces."

"The past few weeks have been really tough. I've learned a hell of a lot in the past weeks, and so have the players.

"We've got to believe in each other. We can't rely on other teams – we've got to make sure we get out of this ourselves."

Welsh and assistant Andrew Stanhope made a tactical change to training on Monday.

As the squad turned up in their club tracksuits, ready for running, they were told they were going for a team bonding curry.

"We just needed something to relax the boys," Welsh added.

"The boys turned up expecting to train and we just took them for a bite to eat and a laugh and a joke.

"Some of the boys were getting to know each other and it just broke the ice.

"And you can't beat a good ruby murray can you? The bill wasn't pretty reading but it was money well spent."

Miller walked away with the man of the match champagne and match ball after his showing.

"I'm chuffed to bits," he said.

"I want to score goals and help this club get up the table," he added.
