Dennis Greene says his Boston United side will channel their play-off heartbreak to come back stronger than ever.

The Pilgrims’ promotion dream was ended by a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to Chorley in the Vanarama North play-off semi-finals.

The Pilgrims had led 2-1 until the fifth minute of stoppage time, when the Magpies levelled through Adam Roscoe’s stunning overhead kick.

But Greene thinks positives can still be taken from Saturday’s woe.

“You’ve got to have defeats like this to make you stronger,” said the manager.

“It’s like with boxers, things like this build your character. We’ve had this, but now they’ve got to be focused on not having these emotions of the play-offs.

“We don’t want to be involved in this, we want to win this league.

“Going up as champions would feel even sweeter.

“That’s our focus, winning this league.”
