BOSTON United will play their first competitive match of the season tonight - as they travel to face Lincoln United in the Lincolnshire Senior Shield.

Pilgrims midfielder Danny Sleath looks likely to start for the Pilgrims after spending a week in Sweden with the Great Britain team ahead of the World University Games in China next month.

Marc Newsham is should also get a run out as he recovers his match fitness following a knee injury.

Kick off at Ashby Avenue is 7.45pm, and the winning team will book their place in the semi-finals.

If United are successful they will travel to face rivals Gainsborough Trinity on August 2, just weeks after the Blues snapped up former Pilgrims Jamie Yates, Shane Clarke and Dominic Roma.

Boston have a good record in the shield, winning it in 2010 with a success at Grantham and missing out last season as they were beaten by Stamford on penalties.

Lincoln currently play in the Evo-Stik Division One North.
