Spencer Weir-Daley has pledged to be spot on for Boston United.
Forward Marc Newsham is the club’s designated penalty taker, but Weir-Daley says he is more than happy to deputise.
And he proved that in decisive fashion when he netted from the spot in United’s recent 4-0 victory at Stafford Rangers, as Newsham battled a knee injury.
“Marc’s the top penalty taker, he’s not really missed too many,” said Weir-Daley.
“But with him not being involved, I was confident I was going to grab the ball straight away.”
The striker coolly smashed that Stafford spot kick straight down the middle, but admitted it’s always a gamble picking your spot.
“I think I’ve missed one in five, so the thoughts are always there,” he added. “I practice them all.
“I just make my decision and feel confident. Sometimes you have to catch the keepers off guard.
