SPENCER Weir-Daley says Boston United are ready to gatecrash the Blue Square Bet North promotion party.

The striker found the net twice as the Pilgrims ground out a vital 2-1 victory at Hinckley on Monday.

And with fifth-placed Gainsborough Trinity going down to Worcester City by the same scoreline, the Pilgrims have edged to within six points of the top five.

“Since I’ve been back I’ve sensed we’re still in this,” said last season’s leading scorer, who rejoined United from Blue Square Premier side AFC Telford in January.

“We’re ready to do it. It’s a big ask, but there’s no reason why we can’t get into the play-offs.”

With the Pilgrims clocking up four wins in five league matches, Weir-Daley believes momentum is on Boston’s side.

And he has questioned whether some teams in the mix have the stomach for a fight.

“There’s always one team that drops out (of the promotion race), and we want to be the team that fills that slot.

“To be honest, we’ve never given up on promotion.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done and we need to put a run together. But we’re confident.”
