HAT-TRICK hero Mark Jones has revealed how manager Jason Lee gave his Pilgrims a half-time rollicking last night... despite them leading 3-0.
Jones had netted twice and Ben Fairclough also hit the back of the net as Boston United were comfortably in charge at the interval against Histon.
“He’s come in, slammed the door and had a go at us,” Jones said, clutching his match ball and man-of-the-match champagne.
“He said ‘it’s not a great performance and it’s not good enough’.
“He wasn’t the happiest. But after the second half he was happier.
“To be fair, we have to play how he wants, he’s the manager.
“He was right and we turned it around.”
Lee’s tongue-bashing certainly kept United on their toes as they finished with another clean sheet and three further goals, courtesy of Marc Newsham, Jones and Ben Milnes.
Lee confirmed his half-time tirade, saying: “I’m pleased and delighted now.
“I wasn’t particularly happy with the first half.
“As crazy as it sounds, we didn’t particularly play well and made a lot of mistakes.
“It was a strange one, 3-0 up and I was not congratulating anyone.
“I thought if we didn’t sharpen up they could come back into the game, and that’d be criminal.”
