Scott Garner is backing Boston United to book their place in the Conference Premier.

The Pilgrims skipper is brimming with confidence ahead of this evening’s play-off first leg at Chorley, and can’t picture anything but Boston progressing.

He is also quick to point out that the squad will have to work hard to get any kind of reward, but Garner believes United are about to reach a new level on the pitch.

“We’ll step up,” he said. “With our form we’re the team everyone wants to avoid.

“We’ve got to fancy ourselves now. I really fancy us to win the play-offs.”

Indeed, United claimed third spot in the Vanarama North after an unbelievable end to the campaign which has seen them go 10 games unbeaten - winning seven of those contests.

And Garner is beginning to feel that his side can keep that run going.

“You’ve got that sense,” he added. “You can see it happening, us here celebrating that promotion on the final day.

“But we’ve got to make it happen first.

“The best teams in the league finish in the top places, and everyone’s going to think they can do it.

“But we have hunger. It’s our mentality that we want to win games.

“We go into every game expecting to win, and that must be hard to play against.”
