Boston Town boss Matt Hocking believes a good run in the FA Cup can lay the foundations for a top season.
Looking back at last season’s successes in the FA Vase, Hocking said: “Last year proved that a cup run can do great things for the team.
“Doing well in a cup competition creates a buzz and brings the lads closer together in the dressing room.
“You find your lads can bond a lot quicker on the back of a cup run.”
Last season, a narrow 1-0 defeat at Gornal Athletic ended the Poachers’ Vase run, where they reached the last 64 of the competition.
The world’s most famous club knockout competition has been a nice distraction for the Poachers this season, especially as they are yet to win a match in the UCL Premier.
However, a 3-2 success against Great Yarmouth Town has given them something to cheer.
That victory saw Town book their place in the preliminary round, and the chance to host Dereham Town at Tattershall Road today (KO 3pm).
