Boston Town are organising a reunion for the heroes of their famous FA Cup run of 40 years ago.

The event takes place from 5.30pm on Saturday, April 29 at the DWB Stadium.

The club are hoping it will be attended by as many of the players who played at Barnsley in November 1976 as possible, as well as other players from that era.

The reunion will feature a screening of rarely-seen archive film footage of Boston FC.

There will also be a presentation ceremony, a slide show and exhibition of old photos and memorabilia from the 1970s and 80s, plus a football quiz and nostalgic 1970s music.

Boston FC beat Bourne, King’s Lynn, Stamford and a powerful Bangor City side on their way to reaching the FA Cup first Round Proper for the only time in their history.

They led 1-0 at half-time at Oakwell in front of more than 6,000 fans before finally succumbing 3-1 to Barnsley.

Club historian Simon Ashberry said: “Sadly two of that side, Dennis Beatson and Tony Weighell are no longer with us.

“But we’ve been in touch with the likes of Dennis Reeson, Mick Daley and Phil Scothorne and are hoping to be able to make it a real celebration of what was an unforgettable achievement.”

Any players from that era who are interested in finding out more about the reunion can contact Simon by emailing him at sashberry@hotmail.com or calling 07967 624606.
