It’s the Pitts for Ladies

Boston Hockey Club’s Ladies began their season with a 4-0 success at Woodhall Spa.

Lauren Pitts scored twice, while Akayla Newton and Katie Beeson also netted for Boston, who handed a debut to Kelly Tomlinson.

Boston took a while to get used to Woodhall’s pitch, but Caroline Chester-O’Neill, Leigh Chorlton and Pitts were soon running the show in midfield.

After Alice Peto, Lisa Ceaser, Claire Nundy and keeper Donna Chester-O’Neill repelled a series of attacks from the hosts, Newton took the ball around the keeper and slotted home to open up the scoring.

Caroline Chester-O’Neill set Newton up for the first goal, and a second textbook pass found Pitts in plenty of room as Boston’s lead in the Eastern Hockey League Division 3NW was doubled.

It wasn’t long until a through ball from defence found Pitts again, and she scored her second of the day.

Boston knew they had more to give in the second half, and everyone stepped up their game.

Players’ player Lauren Harvey had a great game at left half and combined really well with Newton.

Petra Wood was rock solid in defence and Donna Chester-O’Neill made some more great saves.

Boston’s hard work paid off as Beeson’s strike from the edge of the D rattled the back board and wrapped up the result.

Boston Ladies return to action on Saturday, as they host Wisbech Seconds at Rosebery Avenue (12.30pm).
