THE Lincolnshire League representative side missed out on a place in the Inter-League Cup.

The side - featuring a number of Boston United Reserves players - were defeated 4-2 by Cheshire.

The Yellowbellies took an early lead through Pilgrims striker Tom Sergeant at Lincoln United’s Ashby Avenue ground.

However, Cheshire bounced back to lead 2-1.

Keeper Andrew Hewitt, another United player, saved asecond-half penalty, but it was soon 3-1.

Sergeant cut the deficit for Lincolnshire, but the visitors added a fourth towards the end to book a semi-final trip to the Jersey League.

Three previous victories had booked Lincolnshire’s place in the last eight but it was one step too far for Glen Maddison’s side.

Boston United Reserves were without a game on Saturday, but return to action to face Skegness United on the east coast.

SWINESHEAD suffered a comprehensive defeat at the Causeway in the Lincs League.

League leaders Cleethorpes proved too strong as they earned a 5-0 success.

Institute are now looking to book a place in the Challenge Cup on Saturday as they ho9st Grimsby Borough Reserves in the semi-final (KO 2.30pm).
