BOSTON Town boss Martyn Lakin will be forced to stretch his versatile squad tonight, as the Poachers prepare to exact revenge over Yaxley.
Town will be without five first-team regulars due to injury and suspension for this evening’s trek to Cambridgeshire.
However, Lakin believes his squad still has the ability to get three points against the Cuckoos.
“We made the conscious decision to sign versatil players this season,” he said.
“And a number of the lads will be asked to do a job which isn’t in their favourite position.
“But we know we’ve got players capable of doing the job.”
The Poachers were beaten 3-1 at Tattershall Road by Yaxley earlier in the UCL Premier campaign, on a night where Kieran Davies ran the show.
But the midfielder has since switched to Town, and will be looking to add to the 25-yard strike he netted during Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Irchester.
Lakin – who has drafted in Benington keeper Ricky Lovelace as cover for Chris Wright this evening (KO 7.45pm) – also sees this evening as a chance for the likes of Luke Marson et al to stake their claims for a regular place in the Poachers’ starting line up.
“It’s a chance for them to show what they can do ahead of Saturday’s FA Vase match (against Gornal Athletic),” he added.
Yaxley are currently four places below Boston in the table.
But they do have something Lakin is envious of – target man Sam Bettinson.
“He’s a player I played with at Bourne and he’s exactly what we are looking for,” Lakin added.
“But family commitments mean he can’t play further afield than Yaxley right now.
“He’s a big strong striker and someone we will have to be careful about.”
