Alex Beck netted at the death to secure Boston Town’s first league win of the campaign at Oadby on Saturday.
Following last Wednesday’s 5-0 drubbing of Harrowby United in the United Counties League Knockout Cup, the Poachers - who had lost their opening six games of the campaign - had their London bus moment.
In this UCL Premier contests Town breezed into a 2-0 lead by half time, Jordan Smith and Jack Wightwick both on target.
The hosts, however, weren’t going down without a fight and pulled level.
But Beck had the final say, netting the vital winner which saw the Poachers leapfrog Cogenhoe at the foot of the table.
Wightwick scored a hat-trick as Town thumped Harrowby.
Smith also impressed on his debut, putting the Poachers 1-0 up in the 15th minute, also hitting the woodwork twice, while Fraser Bayliss added to the scoreline.
Darren Bevan, in charge of team affairs for the night, was able to bring on three of his young Development Squad players - Tyler Freeman-Burdass, Connor Eyes and George Bevan - as Boston cruised towards a second round tie against Holbeach.
Harrowby’s hopes of a consolation were denied as James Lambley pulled off a late penalty save.
Since the resignation of former boss Nathan Collins, Danny Troitt has left to join Grimsby Borough.
However, midfielder Jamie Elston has returned for a third spell at the club while strikers Jenson Ball and Curtis Revell have both made debuts.
