Promising Yellowbelly athletes are being encouraged to apply for financial support.

Applications for the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme (LEAP) 2016 are now open, offering backing and mentoring for up to 35 of the county’s top athletes.

Coordinated by Lincolnshire Sport in partnership with a variety of partners including Lincolnshire County Council, District Councils and commercial organisations, LEAP supports 35 athletes each year.

Support includes funding of up to £1,000, mentoring, support with promotion and marketingand opportunities to attend training courses.

Laura McGill, sports project officer at Lincolnshire Sport, said: “We feel it is vital to support our local athletes and we are looking forward to welcoming 35 of Lincolnshire’s top sportsmen and women on to the LEAP programme again this year.

“We have supported athletes from local to international level and we are delighted to be able to play a small role in so many athletes going on to achieve their full potential.”

The deadline for applications to LEAP 2016 is Friday, October 31.
