Fellow Boston Golf Club member Jordan Wrisdale also missed the cut in the event, the seventh tournament in this year’s European Challenge Tour.

Coupland’s two-round total of 144, two over par, was agonisingly close to the 143 needed to make the cut.

He opened with a one under par round of 71 and followed that with a second round score of 73.

For Wrisdale his appearance in the event came as something of a surprise. He was 12th reserve on the Monday morning prior to the tournament, but by mid afternoon he was in the tournament.

He opened with an encouraging 72 in the first round but his hopes of making the cut were hit by a second round 78, giving him a two round total of 150.

The event was won by German golfer Alexander Knappe with a four round total of 272 to finish 12 under par and pick up the first prize of 27,200 euros.

England’s Paul Howard tied for second place with Norwegian Espen Kofstad, both finishing on 273, one shot behind the leader, to share the second prize of 15,300 euros.

The players in the top 15 positions in the final tour rankings will obtain full playing rights to the 2017 European Tour International Schedule.

Currently, Wrisdale is lying in 117th position with 1,970 points having played in three of the seven tournaments so far played.

Coupland has played in four tournaments and has 928 points, which puts him in 152nd place.
