Grimsby battle vital for safety

Boston CC’s First XI may be facing the Lashings World XI on Friday - but skipper Tom Baxter is quick to point out that is not his side’s most important game of the weekend.

On Saturday the Mayflower men make the lengthy trip to Grimsby.

With Grimsby only 22 points behind Boston, and in the drop zone, it is a game that both sides will be desperate to win.

“We are sat 10th in this league. If we really want to stay up then these are the games that we must be winning,” Baxter (pictured) said of the Lincs ECB Premier clash. “Like in any relegation battle, you must beat sides around you.”

Baxter has missed the last four weeks with an ankle injury, but he is hoping to be fit for Saturday’s game.

“If I can play on Friday then bonus, but I need to make sure that I can get back to league cricket,” he added.

“We have some huge games coming up and I can’t wait to get back on the field.”

With seven games remaining, and 140 points to play for, Baxter believes that Boston have an amount in mind that they would like to pick up.

“We know what we want, but that won’t just happen,” he continued.

“No side is that bad in this league that you just turn up and beat them.

“If we have the right attitude from start to finish then we will win games.”
