Hildred is a treble champion

Thursday, 9.35am - BOSTON Squash Club claimed five trophies at the Lincolnshire County Closed Championships – with Mark Hildred becoming a triple champion.

Hildred won nine matches out of nine to win three different competitions, the men's, men's over 35s, and men's over 45s titles.

In the men's open tournament, Roberto Rocci failed to overcome Graeme Williamson, while Jason Green lost to nationally-ranked junior Sam Haycock.

Boston's Jake Fountain began a day of testing matches with a five-game thriller, coming from behind to beat Paul Moules.

Hildred filled in as top seed following Grantham`s Martin Gibson's late pullout, and beat Stuart Garner and Dominic Price on his way to the final.

Adam Hildred lost to seed Mark Day while Dave Doherty played well but could not dispatch seed Dominic Price.

Ady Proctor beat Boston counterpart Fountain to progress to the quarters, before losing to eventual finalist Dean Hiatt.

The climax of the event saw Hiatt, Lincoln`s top player, face Hildred to decide the 2010 Lincolnshire County Champion.

Hildred won the first 11/9, doubling his lead by grabbing the second 11/6.

Hiatt pulled one back but Hildred held his nerve and grabbed the final game 11/6 to take the county title - the first time he had won the men's open tournament since 1990, when he was 26.

This was also a record eighth county title for Hildred.

The men's over 35s event saw Hildred beat fellow Boston competitor Green while Rocci was knocked out by second seed Dylan Ross.

Green finished runner-up to John Mackenzie in the senior plate competition.

Also in the over 35s, Proctor beat John Secker in another all-Boston tie, going on to face Hildred in the final.

Mark won the over 35s county championship for the 10th time in 11 years, albeit after Proctor was forced to retire at 9/4 and 8/5 down when he suffered an injury.

In the men's over 45s semi-finals Boston`s Dave Stones lost to Andy Simpson, the Grantham player reaching the final to face while Hildred.

Again Hildred won the title, taking the match 9/2, 9/4, 9/2 to win the category in his first year in the age group.

In the over 55s event, Boston players Dave Parsons was beaten by number one seed Paul Tudor while club mate Paul Smith was defeated by Ian Brown.

Bob Pearson flew the flag for Boston, reaching the semis before going down 3-1 to second seed Alan Beal.

The main plate final was won by Graeme Williamson, who beat Chris Martin 3-1.

In the over 55s competition, Spalding's Paul Tudor beat Alan Beal.

Boston are now into the thick of the squash season, with the men's team due to host Leicester in the last 16 of the National Club Championships on Saturday, January 23 (6pm).

Additionally, the men's over 45s team are scheduled to play their quarter-final tie by the end of the month, a date is yet to be confirmed.
