WOODHALL Spa Cricket Club’s Jubilee Park ground will be graced by some of the game’s greatest ever players next week.
On Monday, the Lashings World XI visit the Lincolnshire club for a third time with the likes of Devon Malcolm, Saqlain Mushtaq and John Embruey donning the yellow and black of the Lashings giants.
The day, sponsored by Crowders Nurseries of Horncastle, will see Woodhall’s First XI team take on the Lashings side of international greats in a 35-over per-side affair that starts at 2.30pm.
In 2010, the Lashings side amassed a score of in excess of 400 with New Zealand star Lou Vincent smashing a magnificent 243 in front of a sizeable crowd and with the backdrop of commentary from the voice of Test Match Special Henry Blofeld – who will also be returning this year.
Preparations for the day are in the final throes and Chairman of the Club’s Lashings Committee John Luffman is hoping for another memorable day.
He said: “Last time the World XI visited it was a fabulous affair for not just the Club but the area as a whole and we are hoping for much of the same this summer.
“Our relationship with Lashings is outstanding and they will once again bring a strong side of well-celebrated internationals and Henry Blofeld has already tweeted our club captain to confirm the date is in his diary.
“All in all it promises to be another memorable day and I would urge any cricket or sports fan to book into their diaries too.”
The Lashings Team players are: John Lever (manager, England), Phil Defreitas (captain, England), Mohammed Akram (Pakistan), Ian Butler (New Zealand), John Embruey (England), Ed Giddens (England), Gordon Greenidge (West Indies), Ian Harvey (Australia), Wasim Jaffer (India), Devon Malcolm (England), Saqlain Mushtaq (Pakistan) and Imran Nazir (Pakistan).
Entrance to the public is £6 per adults and £4 for concessions. All with free parking.
