Johnson to box in the final of Commonwealth Federations tournament

Tuesday, 6pm - CALLUM Johnson will box in the final of the Commonwealth Federations tournament tomorrow.

The Benington fighter will take on India's Dinesh Kumar at midday, with the gold medal at stake.

Light heavyweight Johnson will have his work cut out against southpaw Kumar, currently ranked sixth in the world.

Johnson, who fights for Scotland, is in New Delhi to climatise to life in India ahead of October's Commonwealth Games.

He booked his place in the final with a 7-2 points win over Mauritius' Rodney Prosper yesterday.

A second-round warning saw Johnson deducted two points and the opponents locked at 2-2 going into the final round.

However, a dominant display for Johnson saw him pick up five points without reply and give his opponents two standing counts as he booked his place in the final round.

"This is great for Callum's confidence - a final is a final," said dad Paul, Johnson's trainer.

"He wants to win it."
