BOSTON Town boss Martyn Lakin has told his young Poachers to go out and show Boston United exactly what they are missing.
Town and United will face one another in a pre-season friendly at Tattershall Road on Saturday (KO 3pm).
And with five former Pilgrims in his squad, Lakin expects his United Counties League Premier Division side to be more than up for the challenge posed by their Blue Square Bet North opponents.
No-one knows more about how a decent pre-season showing can transform your fortunes than Lakin who, as a young keeper, was signed by Cheltenham Town after impressing against them in a friendly for Pershore Town.
“Teams like Boston United are always on the lookout for a bargain so I expect our lads will be ready to show them what they’ve got,” Lakin said.
“A few of the side have also been released by United in the past, so I’m sure they will been desperate to show the club they shouldn’t have let them go.
“It will be an interesting match.
“We also have the chance to show the United fans that there is another team in Boston, a side they could watch on the weekends when United are away.”
New Poachers signings ,goalkeeper Chris Wright and midfielder Shane Clancy, are both former Pilgrims, as are defender Michael Wood and strikers Alex Beck and Danny Matson, while Lakin is a former academy coach at York Street.
Town will also give a run out to trialist Matt Oswin, who has previously played for Wisbech Town.
United, may also field some former Poachers in their side, with Matt Hocking and Liam Parker currently training with the amber side of Boston.
The signing of Wright, which Lakin describes as a ‘real coup’ has seen last season’s number one James Doughty move to Deeping Rangers.
The Poachers’ remaining friendly fixtures will be July 20, H v Grimsby Borough (KO 7.45pm); July 23, H v Pinchbeck United (3pm); July 26, H v Skegness Town (7.45pm); July 30, H v Swaffham Town (3pm).
The UCL season kicks off on August 13 at Newport Pagnell, followed by a home derby clash against Holbeach United three days later.
Town have also been drawn away at Glossop North End in the extra-preliminary round of the FA Cup on August 20 and, in the FA Vase, the Poachers have been drawn at Gedling Miners’ Welfare on September 10.
l Town are offering kids for a quid entry for Saturday’s match against United.
Any under 16 entering Tattershall Road accompanied by a paying adult can watch the match for a pound.
