A buzz at the B-Hive for Boston and District AC

BOSTON and District Athletic Club held the first of this season’s junior sportshall athletics events at the B-Hive indoor athletics centre.

There were some promising performances by year five and six pupils, with Alice Parsons and Ryan Wannacott showing some really good form.

Alice secured victories clear in vertical jump (32cm), two-lap race (24.0 secs) and one-lap race (12.1 secs). On her way to an overall score of 63.

Ryan was the outstanding competitor in the boys’ section, winning the speed bounce (64), vertical jump (37cm) and standing long jump (1.82m).

Olly Staniland secured a series of third places in the speed bounce, and over one and four laps.

William Wright won the four-lap event (52.2 secs) while Alec Sykes’ best result was in the standing long jump (1.62m).

In the under nine girls’ category, Macey Andrews was the outstanding competitor, winning four of the five events in the age group.

These came over one-lap (12.4 secs) and two-lap (26.1 secs) also winning speed bounce (50), vertical jump (29cm) and standing long jump (1.48m).

Koen Groves produced the best boys’ results - standing long jump (1.34m), long jump (23cm), vertical jump (23cm) and speed bounce (44).

Erin Bennett won the girls’ standing long jump on countback (1.48m) and finished second in both speed bounce and vertical jump.

At under nine level, six-year-old Johnny Wilkinson produced the most consistent results.

He won both the one-lap (14.6 secs) and two-lap races (30.5 secs).

Georgia Ward, also six, won the vertical jump with a height of 22cm.

The youngest competitor was four-year-old Terry Wilkinson.

The second sportshall event will be held on October 20 (10am-noon).
