A Frithville youngster took the county U13s boys long jump county title in Lincoln on Saturday.

William Wright was competing in the Lincolnshire County Athletic Championships at Yarborough Centre, Lincoln for Nene Valley Harriers.

In a group of eight other athletes in the U13 boys long jump, William’s jump of 4.14m was good enough to take the county title.

It was also a personal best for William, as were two other jumps over 3.85m.

William said he was delighted but a little surprised at his success in an event he had only entered for fun.

William concentrates on endurance training with Dave Clay at the Princess Royal Sports Arena, but has guidance for long jump and hurdles from Bob Whiler.

He thanked all the help that he has had from both his trainers.

William went on immediately after this event to run in the U13 boys 800m County final, coming fourth.

William came second in the U13 boys 75m hurdles at the first part of the County Championships at Grantham in May.
