All hail the Prince! Joseph excels at B-Hive athletics event

There were some impressive performances in the second Boston and District Athletic Club Junior Track and Field match, held at The B-Hive on Saturday.

Joseph Prince was the outstanding competitor at under 11 level, winning all but one of the events in that age group.

In track events Joseph excelled, recording 2 mins 16.7 secs for 600m, 13.0 secs for 80m and 15.3 secs for 70m hurdles.

In the field events he achieved 4.51m in shot , 6.42m in triple jump, 2.88m in long jump - and also cleared 90cm in the high jump competition.

Alice Parsons was second in the 80m (13.3 secs).

Alice also finished third in the shot (3.78m) and fourth in the triple jump (5.92m).

Macey Andrews achieved 2.71m for second place in long jump and was third in the 70m hurdles (16.0 secs).

Macey also finished third in both the 80m sprint (13.6 secs) and the triple jump (6.01m). She added a fourth place in shot with a distance of 3.55m.

A leap of 6.02m in triple jump earned Jamie Westland second position, while 4.06m in shot and a time of 2 mins 28.1 secs in the 600m gave him further second places.

He then cleared 80cm in high jump.

Hallam Bedford’s best position was in long jump, where 2.65m placed him third.

Shane Canham was third over 600m (2 mins 30.4 secs) but cleared the winning height of 90cm in high jump, which he shared with Jenson Barkworth.

In the under nines, William Van Lier won the 80m (13.0 secs) , the 300m (64.7 secs) and the 70m hurdles (15.3secs).

He finished first in the cricket ball throw (41.10m) and second in long jump (2.31m).

Benjamin Brutton was first in long jump (2.39m) and he finished runner-up in the 80m (14.8 secs), the cricket ball throw (14.32m), the 70m hurdles (16.5 secs) and the 300m (72.3 secs).

Hadleigh Bedford achieved a comprehensive victory in the triple jump, clearing 5,33m.

Nathaniel Brutton was second in the same event, achieving a distance of 4.47m.

In high jump, Hadleigh and Nathaniel shared the under nines high jump title (70cm).

At under seven level, Georgia Ward’s performances showed marked improvement.

She finished the 300m in 87.4 secs, and recorded 17.7 secs for the 80m, 21.0 secs for the 70m hurdles and threw the cricket ball 10.40m.

The next Junior Track and Field Match at the B-Hive is on Saturday, July 13, with registration at 9.30am.
