Boston Wheeler Rick Ellis has ridden to a stunning second-place finish on the route known as France’s Mountain of Hell.

He was competing at the free ride downhill mountain biking competition at Les Deux Alpes, near Grenoble.

And he claimed an incredible second place in the Masters class.

The highlight of the event is 25km of downhill riding on an unmarked route from the top of a glacier, under the shadow on Mont Blanc.

Mountain biking addicts must pass through several posts, ride over snow, rocks, single tracks, steps, and take on a sheer descent.

The drop in altitude of nearly 2,400 vertical meters has previously been completed in a best time of 40 minutes.

Not to be outdone, Boston Wheelers’ ladies’ Green Team took on the Rapha 100km.

All seven ladies completed the challenge, which isn’t bad for a group who only started cycling in May.

Pouring rain, thunder and lightning greeted riders at the Blyton Circuit Race held by Scunthorpe Poly on Saturday evening.

Boston Wheelers’ youth rider Thomas Smith came second in the category D,E race and Sam Trotter, in his first ever road race, came 11th in the category A,B,C race.
