BOSTON Judo Club member Artjoms Jurkjans proved he is the perfect 10 as he won gold at a recent judo event.
The 11-year-old won the top prize at the Littleport Judo Club and British Judo Association two-star event in Cambridge, beating opponents with higher gradings along the way.
Red belt Artjoms beat off all-comers in the 10-11 event, including higher-grade yellow and orange belts in the same group.
He may have only taken the sport up in 2010, but Artjoms’ wrestling background meant he had a powerful advantage, winning all his fights by the maximum 10 points, using throwing and holding and linking techniques to secure wins.
Boston coach Dave Jacklin said: “Without a doubt, when you see Artjoms’ skill it’s obvious he has been taught well and drilled in specific areas, a credit to his wrestling coaches.
“His character for combat sport is superb, together with his willingness to help those less able on the mat.”
Artjoms has recently been awarded the Mercedes Benz Spirit of Judo trophy in the club for for his hard work and dedication.
He is now setting his sights on joining the Midland Area and Eastern Area Squad sessions.
