Boston and District Athletic Club’s distance runners got the cross country season under way at the first of the Lincolnshire Cross Country League events, held at Louth.

In dry weather with a stiff, breezy wind, conditions were a little muddy underfoot in some parts of the challenging London Road course.

In the senior women’s event over 5.3k, Fallon Lafferty had an excellent race, tackling the hills with real confidence and running strongly into the finish funnel in fourth place.

Owen Msimango crossed the finish line in 65th position at the end of the 9.7k challenge.

In the under 13 boys’ race over 3.0k, Matthew Millington, Shaun Canham and Hallam Bedford closed in to claim a decent team position in the opening encounter of the series.

Matthew was 11th, Shaun 14th and Hallam 17th out of 30 starters.

At under 11 level, Hadley Bedford had an encouraging first race and claimed 18th place.

Gold Tops ladies captain Alice Flint has again been in track and field action at Cambridge University.

In this year’s Cuppers match - an inter-college competition - Alice won the triple jump with a leap of 9.53 m and then claimed third place in the 800m, recording 2mins 39.7secs.
