BOSTON-area athletes distinguished themselves at the annual Anglian Schools Track and Field Championships at Peterborough on Saturday.
In the intermediate girls’ 80m hurdles event, Maria Hollingsworth (Boston High) was the clear winner and despite a two-metres-per-second wind against her, she recorded 11.69 secs on the electronic timing system in operation at the Embankment Track.
This is Maria’s fasted electronic time for the 80m hurdles and demonstrates that she is on course to dip below 11.4 secs before the end of the season.
Maria also played her part as a member of the Lincs intermediate girls’ 4x100m relay team.
Frances Nuttell (Boston High) improved her high jump personal best for the second week in succession when she was engaged in a close competition with the Norfolk representatives in the junior girls’ championship.
Clearing 1.58m to achieve her second ESAA Track and Field Championships entry standard in six days, Frances took first place for Lincolnshire on the countback system.
She also finished fourth in the 75m hurdles event, clocking 12.89secs, and then helped the Lincs 4x100m relay quartet to a good second place.
Tiago Torres (Haven High ) performed well in county colours, claiming second place in the junior boys’ high jump with a clearance of 1.65m.
The 25-strong team to represent Lincolnshire at the English Schools Track and Field Championships at Gateshead International Stadium on July 6 and 7 will be announced later this week.
