FIVE Boston and District Athletic Club members represented Lincolnshire at Saturday’s North of England Inter Counties Track and Field Championships at Lancashire’s Leigh Stadium.

Maria Hollingsworth, Alice Flint, Becky Locking, Selena Wells and Anthony Sandall assisted Lincolnshire to a very respectable sixth position in the nine counties challenge for the under 17 and under 15 age groups.

The county finished behind Yorkshire, North East Counties, Lancashire and the Isle of Man, Greater Manchester and Cheshire – but ahead of Merseyside, Derbyshire and Humberside.

The highlight of the Championships for Lincolnshire was Maria Hollingworth’s victory in the under 17 80m hurdles event.

Seeded in the A race together with Lincs team mate Millie Cooper (Grantham AC) and drawn in lane six, Maria responded a little sluggishly to the gun.

Despite the steady start, Maria quickly got into her rhythm and hit the front after clearing the first of the eight barriers.

Maria ran on strongly and with Milly pushing her all the way to the finish line, the two Lincs girls secured maximum points for the county.

In the final analysis, Maria had a nine-10ths of a second margin over her teammate, recording a splendid 11.72 secs to maintain her top four place on the UK Power of Ten Ranking List for the event.

Maria also ran in the 100m, lining up in the second heat for Lincolnshire and recording 13.32 secs in sixth place.

Alice Flint continued to reinforce her marked improvement over 800m this season.

Competing in heat two, Alice went out fast, maintained good momentum to produce another fine performance finishing second in a near personal best time of 2 mins 23.72 secs.

In heat two of the 400m, Alice showed good pace judgement, finishing strongly in third position in 61.96 secs.

For her third event, Alice cleared 4.17m in 12th place in the long jump.

Becky Locking competed in both the under 17 discus and shot events.

A 20.02m effort gave her 10th position in the 1k discus contest and a putt of 7.73m placed her 13th in the shot.

Anthony Sandall also represented Lincolnshire in the discus and shot.

A throw of 22.59m gave him 14th position in the discus and a putt of 9.21m placed him 13th in the under 17 shot competition.

In the under 15s age group, Selena Wells represented the county in the shot.

Just failing to beat the seven metre mark, Selena’s best effort of 6.96m earned her 15th position in her first North of England Inter Counties match.

IN THE Lincoln 5K Road Race series, BADAC’s Emma Penniston finshed in a time of 24 mins 07 secs to claim third place in the under 20 female category.
