BADAC’s Ferreira is pipped right at the death

BOSTON and District AC runner Jose Ferreira missed out on winning the East Coast Classic 10k Road Race at Mablethorpe on the home straight.

He finished second in a time of 36 mins 29 secs, setting the pace until being overtaken with 500m left to go.

Emma Penniston finished in 57th position, recording 47 mins 13 secs and Scott Dutton claimed 95th in 51 mins 24 secs in a field of 209 athletes.

The first race in the 2012-13 Fenland Schools Cross-country League was held at Snowden Fields, Crowland on Thursday.

In the junior boys’ competition over two miles, Boston Grammar School’s Blake Garwell won by 25m.

There was good support from Sam Anthony (11th) and Jack Rushby (31st).

In addition, Matthew Connelly was 35th, ahead of Aaron Bradshaw (38th), William Swain (40th), Kieran Pickwell (41st), William Parsons (42nd), Tom Balderstone (44th), Finlay Whitaker (73rd) and injured Edward Buckley (83rd).

This was a promising team performance for BGS Year seven and eight runners on their first outing in the league .

The next round is at Stanground College, Peterborough, on October 10.

In the intermediate boys’ race, Thomas Vamplew finished in 49th.
